Goodbye to Eternal Dragons
It seems that the Eternal Dragons weren't actually everlasting. Just over a year since they launched their initial alpha version, the team behind Eternal Dragons has declared that they are closing the game.
In the midst of mostly upbeat developments within the web3 gaming sector, we're faced with some disappointing news. This concerns Eternal Dragons, a game that is being completely discontinued. The development of Eternal Dragons has been halted, and the closure of their servers, website, and Discord is expected in the upcoming weeks.
Following a successful period previously, a shortage of players and continuous financial issues have abruptly paused another video game. Eternal Dragons, despite its innovative approach of incorporating NFTs to benefit and share profits with professional players, failed to garner the necessary player base to sustain its development.
For holders of Eternal Dragons NFTs, there is a bit of positive news. The team behind Eternal Dragons has announced plans to repurchase Genesis Dragons and Eggs from users. This repurchase program will be limited to items from the Genesis collection, as the hatching of new eggs has already ceased. The buyback offer includes $30 USDC per Egg, and between $12 and $120 USDC for Dragons, depending on their rarity. Although these amounts may not fully compensate those who invested heavily last year, they offer some consolation compared to the typical scenario where players receive nothing when a game is discontinued.
Information regarding the methods and timing for trading these NFTs remains unclear. Stay tuned to the Eternal Dragons Twitter feed for the latest news.

Concluding Remarks
It may often appear otherwise, but not everyone can emerge victorious. Regrettably, Eternal Dragons falls into the category of those who didn't succeed. From my perspective, their game lacked engaging elements, however, the idea of their Player Cards is intriguing. This concept could pave the way for future NFTs that adopt similar approaches.
These Player Cards served as a form of financial stake in a specific professional player, enabling card owners to receive a share of the player’s earnings from competitions and tournaments. This method offers a financial support channel for professional players and lets fans engage more actively, feeling like participants in the experience instead of mere observers.
However, Eternal Dragons appeared to lack innovation in their gameplay and in the integration of other NFTs, resulting in a dwindling number of players and diminishing appeal to new participants.
Eternal Dragons was a web3-based, automated combat game that involved groups of dragons fighting on a grid-based map. The initial alpha release of Eternal Dragons occurred in December 2022, and it incorporated NFTs that were built on the Solana blockchain.
